I now have it! Yesterday I drove half across the country to buy a Pontiac 389 (GTO engine) in need of some work. The plan is to restore this engine beside my 350 that sits in the birdie. Then when time comes for the 350 to finally blow, I'll just lift in this one and continue rocking.

Some pics;

As you can see I've done some minor disassembly so far just to get my head around the situation a bit. From the looks of it 2 freeze plugs have gone off and it also looks like both head gaskets have failed, oh and did I mention that it's seized up? Tomorrow I'll be buying a real engine stand for it so I can remove the pan and inspect the crank, rods, pistons and all that. If it miraculously turns out to be in good shape I'll save a ton of cash, which would be kinda nice...

Very cool. Hope the block is not cracked.

Yeah one can always hope. The way I see it, it was mostly the "non-smogger" heads I were after. The block was just a bonus considering how cheap I got it all.
